Dr. Becker is a specialist in environmental health and has taught in many public health and nursing programs throughout the region. She is trained in public health and public policy and shares a joint appointment in Health Policy. Her research interests include climate change adaptation for the elderly, pharmaceuticals in the environment and evaluations of community-based participatory research efforts, with publications in these areas. Dr. Becker has established three non-profits, including the award winning, Women's Health and Environmental Network, (WHEN) which merged with Physicians for Social Responsibility PA. She founded her own public health consulting firm, specializing in evaluation and assessment, with the emphasis of “putting research into practice” by using the tenets of community-based participatory research (CBPR). Currently Dr. Becker is assessing if climate changes is being taught in health practitioners’ education and developing curricula to meet the need of this immediate threat to human health.
